Highlighting Top Picks, Current Selections and Prices

Costco Wine

If you’re like many wine lovers who are looking for great wine at great prices, you may have discovered that your local Costco sells wine! I have been Shopping for Wine at Costco for years now and the selections and prices continue to warrant your attention as a value-conscious wine consumer.

While I continue to feature specific wines which I feel represent a great deal of value on The Fermented Fruit, I thought a Costco Wine Price Guide might serve loyal readers well. Since Costco neither publishes their current selections nor their prices, I hope that you find this guide to Costco wine resourceful and informative!

*Costco wine prices are current and accurate to the best of our knowledge as of June 6, 2016. I have no affiliation with Costco or Costco wine. Stores visited for this guide: Costco in Arlington, Virginia, Sterling, Virginia and Fort Lauderdale, Fl. If you notice that the price noted for a reviewed wine differs from one published in this guide, that is because the price has since changed and I have updated it in the Costco Wine Price Guide. Don’t forget to check out the Trader Joe’s Wine Section, too. Happy Shopping!

Hi – just ran into your website. Congrats!

I’ll be back – but I’d offer you a comment, if I may.

I believe that your guests would find it helpful if you, 1.) at the top of any list – you have a “last updated,” date listed. 2.) less important, but helpful, on any review you do, have the date of your taste testing noted.

I note this because a year or so back, I happened onto someone else’s site (either T Joes, or Costco’s – can’t remember) and made a number of notes for my next trip – got there, and could find none of them available. Went back and looked – and from a reader’s comment somewhere, I gleaned that the list and reviews were about 2 years old.

A two year old list works fine for the 2005 Château Mouton Rothschild (have one) – but not for these two retailers.

I trust you find that useful.

      Gary,

Thanks for visiting! I appreciate the feedback. I actually just updated the Costco Guide and I notate that at the bottom of the post. As far as each individual review is concerned, if you look at the bottom of the post just under the social media icons it will tell you when I published the review, which is always within a few days of tasting. I try to include all of the new wines that I see but it can be challenging to remove what has sold out. It’s also good to keep in mind that inventory changes from location to location. I’m trying to keep the reviews coming from Costco and TJ’s so that readers will always have something reliably good to choose from.

Enjoy the 2005 Mouton! I drank a 2003 recently and it was beautiful!

      Jeff,

The selections vary from location to location. It might be worth calling your nearest location to see whether they carry it. I have noticed that some stores near more affluent areas seem to offer the higher end wines while other stores lack these selections completely. I hope that helps!

Thank you very muuch for your comprehensive list of wines available at Costco. I have one quick ? What would be your preference between bottles of Dom Perignon for vintage years of 2003 & 2004?

    Reply
    1. The Fermented Fruit Post author

You’re welcome! Thank you for the feedback. Unfortunately I have not tasted both the 2003 and 2004, only the 04 and it has been quite some time since. The consensus seems to be however amongst those who have made the comparison that ’03 is a meatier, more structured wine while ’04 is a more finesses, delicate expression of Champagne. So if you’re looking for near term drinking, the ’04 would likely be the better bet. If you’re considering laying a few bottles down, I would go with the ’03 and let it knit together over time. Let me know what you decide to celebrate with, Cheers!

Are you able to track wine closeouts that Costco gets? Have purchased some great wines at great prices that are one time buys. Costco inventory is very consistent. Their private label wines most often are great.

      Mike,

I couldn’t agree more regarding Costco’s own private label Kirkland Signature. Sometimes they miss but they are rarely unenjoyable and often represent great values.

Unfortunately I am not able to track that information – thought I would sure love to know! One hint that has been helpful in the past is that they have revealed the winemaker and that has illuminated the sourcing to a degree.

      Cheers!

      Bill,

I don’t actually sell any wine. I haven’t seen this particular bottle at any Costco locations I’ve visited. You might want to try calling any nearby locations to see if they stock it.

I sampled a Carmanere recently which came from Costco and costs $14.99, I was told.
I don’t recall the name of the winery though. Seems it started with an O.
The logo was something akin to a bullseye, like the scope on a rifle.
I would really like to have this wine again.
